Many witches are female because the divine feminine is a sacred thing in our craft. There is a divine masculine as well but I feel like we use the divine masculine in our daily lives without knowing it so it is not as emphasized in witchcraft. The divine feminine is the emotional and spiritual side that we all have inside.
When you first start witchcraft, one of the first things you learn is how to connect with the divine feminine. We automatically embrace our divine masculine because we live in a patriarchal society where masculine values are more accepted. A good example of this is the concept of going to work every day to get money, even if you hate it. Values like being a bread winner and leader are most emphasized in society so there is less of a need to use it in your craft. We do still use the divine masculine but first we have to learn to integrate the divine feminine.
The divine feminine brings us our psychic abilities and our view on spirituality. Because witchcraft is a spiritual practice, understanding the divine feminine is imperative in beginning to manifest. Many people turn to the craft because they started off as a psychic and didn’t know how to deal with that. Witchcraft teaches us how to harness the energy of the divine feminine so that we can more effectively use our gifts and eventually integrate them with the divine masculine’s material outlook. For example, I was a tarot reader, then a witch, and now I do tarot for pay online. Since I learned how to use my feminine energy effectively, I was able to integrate it with the divine masculine idea of getting paid.
The divine feminine also rules our emotions and how we react to the external world. So whenever we feel trapped in our emotions, this is our divine masculine not accepting our divine feminine. Our divine feminine lies on the inside and she is expressed through creativity and outward emotions. Whenever we don’t like our emotions, the protective divine masculine creates blocks in our expression. This means that we have to embrace these emotions instead of blocking them out. The best way to do this is through meditation.
Think of the divine feminine as the night and the divine masculine as the day. They must coexist within us. When we are imbalance it is hard to manifest and go through life but when we learn to balance out the two of them good things start to happen.
